Thomas Edward Hale

A multi-talented award winning filmmaker, Thomas Edward Hale has written, directed and shot a hand full of films, music videos, and commercials. Always creating while in between feature projects, he continually offers challenges to talented actors over the globe with his experimental filmmaking projects.

While in one of the largest cities in the world, São Paulo, Brazil, he wrote and directed a music film project for MTV Brasil featuring a Brasilian rock band, the Forgotten Boys. Most recently, he wrote and directed a scary thriller called “Quarto 38” featuring Débora Falabella. Over the past several years he has worked with Brazilian artists such as Débora and Cythia Falabella, Ângelo Antônio, Barbara Paz, Francisca Queiroz, Daniela Escobar, Ze Do Caixao, Supla, and Marina Persons.

Thomas has always enjoyed telling stories. At the age of fourteen he directed his earliest movies. Using an advanced digital video camera his physicist father borrowed from the lab on the weekends, he wrote, directed and shot martial arts movies. An excuse to use and abuse his friends, Thomas was able to convince other children in the neighborhood to appear in his films. From these humble beginnings the passion to make movies was born. With a continued passion for filmmaking, music would soon become his next distraction adding other creative outlets to his life.

Back in the late 1980's, Thomas founded a film production company, thrusting himself into the world of music videos. The company quickly found a niche in music video production when he developed a portable editing studio giving independent bands access to quality music videos on location. Around this time Thomas was admitted to film school but, quickly changed gears when he was selected to join a rock band from England on one of the largest tours of Russia.

Musically, Thomas has toured the former Soviet Union in a rock band, was signed to a Japanese record label, recorded his CD at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, and produced numerous musical acts all over the globe. With the dot com bust approaching and the acquisition of his online music company, WiredPlanet, Thomas turned his focus back on filmmaking and founded an independent production company in Los Angeles called Fuse Filter Pictures. Shortly after, he produced and directed the companies first independent feature film.

With feature film experience under his belt he launched another challenge to make his next feature in a country he has never visited and had limited knowledge of. Quickly deciding on Brasil, he jumped on a plane to São Paulo Brasil and created a new company. Element Three Filmes Brasil would focus on the production of multi-cultural projects, creating and introducing a new generation of films from Brasil to the world.

Originally from Los Angeles, Thomas has traveled and lived in many countries from Russia, Japan, England, Switzerland and now Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. He has a unique ability to adapt his stories into other cultures and languages localizing his films while utilizing the local talent of the country. His latest project takes him to Rio de Janeiro where he co-stared on a wonderful new crime show on Rede Record TV called "A Lei e O Crime." Back behind the camera, he is currently working on financing of his latest feature film project and research for a social documentary in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
